5 Things I’m Grateful for This Week

Is it just me or does this week feel like it’s lasting forever? It’s probably just me since mine started out a little rough with a fall in my driveway thanks to a hidden patch of ice. Then on Tuesday I received a crushing email that I sort of expected, but wasn’t really prepared for until I actually read it and allowed it to sink in. It was most definitely an emotional and challenging couple of days, but there have also been some really great moments this week and I’m trying my best to be grateful for them while spending a little time focusing on the good stuff. They have all been good distractions and I appreciate each and every one of them. Intentionally turning my attention to positive things has been really helpful as I try to get past my pain and disappointment from earlier in the week and hopefully ease into a really fun and relaxing weekend with my family. If this were an entry in my gratitude journal it would look a little like this:
Gratitude Journal

  1. Arnicare Gel because when you’ve reached a certain age and you fall on the ice it’s a good idea to have something you can apply to help with the healing.
  2. Decadent Chocolate Cake that doubles as a fun St. Patrick’s Day dessert treat and a great way to eat away some of your sad feelings. It’s okay in this case, though, because this cake is healthy. No, really.
  3. My treadmill because that piece of equipment is literally my best friend during the winter months, especially in times of stress or when I’m feeling generally crummy. I crank up my favorite music, hop on the belt, and try to forget about everything that’s going on.
  4. A new pair of Asics running shoes that arrived at my door exactly when I needed a little pick-me-up.
  5. Really great online friends like Andrea who responded to my request for help with finding a funny book to read in less than a minute. She went above and beyond and providing me with several suggestions. If you need a book recommendation she is definitely your gal and she is also one of the many reasons I’m so grateful for the people who live in my computer.

How about you? What do you do to get through challenging times or a disappointment in life? Go for a walk? Eat chocolate? Call a friend? All of the above? I appreciate all the tips I can get because I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last time I need a little help getting through a difficult week.
