Soda Stream Review and Giveaway

Okay, as many of you may know I am heading to New York City this week for my first ever conference, BlogHer.  Apparently, there is a whole lot of swag.  So much so, I am told to bring an extra empty suitcase to bring it all home.  That’s a lot of swag!  Now, how could I possibly go away and enjoy all that is awesome and amazing and leave you all at home tweeting and playing Facebook games, folding laundry and washing dishes?  What kind of a friend would I be?  A pretty selfish one, don’t you agree?  That’s why I am so excited to share a super fantastic review and giveaway with you!
If you have been reading this blog or following me on Twitter you most likely know that I don’t drink soda.  I haven’t drank it for years and I actually don’t buy it on a regular basis, either.  I think we can all agree that drinking soda on a daily basis just isn’t the best for you and your body. Right? We can agree on that. Right?
I do, however, have an eleven year old that enjoys an occasional soda.  I usually allow him one at family gatherings.  We pick up a four pack of a locally made root beer and he knows that’s it, so make them last a couple of days (at least) because it could be months before he gets another one.  Literally.  Months.
When we got the opportunity to try out the SodaStream Nick was super excited because it means we can make soda at home.  Now in some households that could get out of control and the carbonator would be running on empty in no time, but in our home I like this part because I can control how much soda we make.  One liter at a time
I find that to be a decent amount because Nick could choose his flavor (carefully) and make that liter last for several days then hound me wait patiently until the next time I would let him make more soda.
It actually took a while before I could write this post because we just weren’t using the machine very much since we aren’t regular soda drinkers, but it was really nice to have it sitting on the shelf for when I gave in we were ready to make another liter.
Let’s talk about the green aspect of the SodaStream!

  • No empties to recycle or throw away – Hello! That’s truly awesome…..I see so many bottles and cans just thrown to the ground and it drives me crazy!
  • No batteries or electricity – Yes, you read that right.  You can make your own soda at home without any plugs or batteries.
  • Includes a reusable carbonator that can fizz 60 liters.  That is a lot of soda!
  • The carbonating 1 liter bottles are reusable and are also BPA-free!
  • No driving to the store because you just have to have yourself some soda!
How super easy is it to use?
Install the carbonator
Fill one of the carbonating bottles with cold tap water
Secure the bottle to the Soda Stream
Press carbonation button a few times to carbonate the water
For simple sparkling water, you are done!
If you want soda, simply add your favorite sodamix (Nick’s is root beer)
Gently tip the bottle upside down a few times and that’s it!
Pour a glass and enjoy!
(I tried a few of the flavors and have to admit, they tasted as good as any soda I drank as a child!)
(a little added green? use a Glass Dharma straw like this smart boy!)
My personal opinion is this:
If you are a soda drinker, the SodaStream is the greenest, most inexpensive way to do it.  It’s fun to make your own treat at home, from sparkling or flavored water to soda(over 30 flavors to choose from). The cost averages about 25 cents for a “can” of soda.  That’s a heck of a deal and remember nothing to throw out or recycle because you wash and reuse the BPA-free 1 liter bottle.
Oh, enough already! Get to the exciting part, Cathy!
