MotorCity Casino Hotel

FYI:  I don’t have a fancy big-girl camera and I didn’t bring my low-tech Kodak EasyShare with me on this trip so all photos were taken with my snazzy Blackberry phone.  Plus side?  No chance of anyone trying to steal my sometimes fuzzy pictures!  So go ahead and make fun of my pictures all you want, at least I didn’t have to lug extra weight around!
I’m still processing everything I saw and experienced over the course of two jam-packed days in Detroit, Michigan as a guest of Ford Motor Company.  While I thumb through all of the memories, I thought I would share some of the details of the gorgeous accommodations I was treated to during my stay.  The MotorCity Casino Hotel awaits with bright lights and valets and bellmen, eager to please and assist.  When I walked into my room, a deluxe king, the first thing I noticed was how spacious it was, which seemed like a lot of room for just me, but I muddled through as best I could.  I was on the 13th floor with a lovely view of the city, the type of skyline that I miss from the days I lived in a big city.

Then there was the bed, the big comfy bed, loaded with plenty of pillows, a library actually, and room enough for my entire family.  I took advantage and sprawled across it as much as possible!

And then I taunted my husband by sending him a picture of the 37 inch plasma screen television, which was flanked my two lighted closets and beneath it were plenty of drawers and a safe for storing any valuables.

With a coffee maker at my fingertips and a variety of teas and Starbucks to choose from, I was pleased, but do wish there was real creamer for the coffee.  That fake powder stuff just doesn’t cut it.
Then there was the bathroom.  You can make fun or judge all you want, but I ooh and ahh over a really elegant bathroom.  This one delivered on pretty much all counts.  From the huge bathtub with a waterfall faucet to the super-big shower stall, I was impressed.  I’m not sure what they were thinking putting scales in the bathroom, though.  Really?  I mean, their money could be way better spent on leaving a basket of chocolate and other snacks, you know, as an equal replacement.  Regardless, I weighed myself like every girl who sees a scale just has to do, then I pushed that darn thing as far underneath the counter as I could, cursed it for being off, and ignored it for the rest of my stay.

I got the most enjoyment from the tub.  I mean I literally never take a bath at home.  Maybe it’s because my tub isn’t nearly as pretty as this one was, or maybe, and the more likely reason, because that much private time at home just doesn’t happen.  Ever.  So I enjoyed every last minute, every last bubble for the entire time I soaked in luxury, not once, but twice.  Although I wish there was a bath pillow, I managed to get comfy with a rolled up towel for my head.  The Molton Brown bathroom amenities were nice as was the magnifying cosmetics mirror and cozy bathrobe.  Doesn’t this thing just scream, “fill me up, pour in some bath gel, and relax?”

And so I did just that……two times.

Ahhh, a bath

I really couldn’t have asked for better accommodations.  I like that the MotorCity Casino Hotel has several green initiatives in place such as:

  • Encouraging guests to reuse bath towels when possible
  • 80% of their trash is converted into steam or electricity and sold to the City of Detroit
  • All their paper products are made from recycled paper
  • Chemicals used to clean restrooms and other areas meet Green Standards

A few areas they could improve on:

  • Include a designated receptacle for recyclables, especially paper.
  • Instead of bottled water, install a filtering system on in-room faucets.
  • Not exactly green, but there weren’t any outlets near the bed, which I needed and missed.
  • Offer option to opt-out of newspaper delivery.  I didn’t read mine either day and felt a bit guilty and wasteful because of this.  I at least hope it’s recycled.

With a four diamond AAA rating, the MotorCity Casino Hotel is truly the place to stay when visiting Detroit for your business or personal travel needs.

I was invited to participate in this program by Clever Girls Collective, Inc. in partnership with Ford and Ogilvy PR. Ford Motor Company paid for my travel and accommodations at the 2-day Driving Green Technology event, I was not compensated in any other manner for my time.  My opinions posted here are my own.
