I don’t know about you, but one of my absolute favorite things about the holidays is the food. I mean I love quality time with my family, but there are some things that I just don’t eat any other time of the year, like stuffing. Seriously, I could eat an entire plate of stuffing on Thanksgiving and I’d need nothing else, well except maybe some squash, oh and maybe a small scoop of mashed potatoes and a sliver of cranberry sauce. Then there were the amazing fresh green beans and carrots and that super soft dinner roll. Okay, confession: It wasn’t that long ago that I ate that exact meal and I may have even gone back for seconds of most of it. It was several hours ago and I’m still feeling unbelievably full, but already looking forward to next year. After the clean up from our gluttonous Thanksgiving feast, my husband, one of my sons, my Nana, my cousin, and my aunt all gathered back around the dining table to play a board game. It’s a super fun game, but truthfully we should have been doing something much more active, like dancing. Let’s face it, while it’s fun to laugh and bond over a good board game, it’s probably not the wisest choice after stuffing your face with uber amounts of calories, but it really was so much fun.
One of my absolute favorite ways to burn a few (hundred) calories is by dancing. I can’t think of a better way to do that than by playing Just Dance 4on the Wii. I’ve played a previous version of the game, so I couldn’t wait to try this new one and check out the cool new features. It’s just as fun as I expected with a really great variety of songs to choose from, like:
- Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson
- Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5
- Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley
- You’re the First, The Last, My Everything by Barry White
- So What by Pink
This is just a small sampling of the over 45 tracks to choose from, plus you can download from the growing catalog of songs from the in-game store, so you have a nearly endless number of songs right at your fingertips.
Whether you like something brand new or prefer a song from the “old” days, there’s something for everyone. Personally, I like a lot of different music types, so I like dancing to something different every time, even duets with my husband are fun, especially when I score more points than he does. That reminds of one of the new features of the Just Dance 4 game, Battle Rounds. You can actually challenge your friends or family members to go head to head until a champion is crowned. I especially like this feature since I tend to be a bit competitive.
Another feature that I loved in the previous version of Just Dance that has been upgraded is the Just Sweat mode. This is where you can have fun dancing and exercising at the same time. This spiced up version of the Just Sweat mode includes personalized programs, live feedbacks and a real calorie counter so you can actually see how much you are burning while you having fun at the same time. While this is my favorite way to enjoy Just Dance 4, I do wish there was more of a variety with the songs. Several of them I didn’t recognize and there were a few instances where it was simply music with no lyrics of songs that were definitely unfamiliar to me, which made it even more challenging for me to follow along, but I also think the more I play, the more easily I will catch on and be able to perfect the choreography because in all honesty, it takes a few tries to catch on even when the song is one that is familiar to me. Of course no matter how well you are able to follow along, the key is that you are moving and dancing and having a whole lot of fun, which is what I love about Just Dance 4. Even though I might not be the best dancer, this game is still a really fun way to release some stress, listen to some of my favorite music, and get some exercise. Just to prove how brave I am and how willing I am to make a total fool of myself so you can see just how fun this game is to play, I totally have proof on video, but due to technical difficulties I was unable to upload it. I know. I know. Likely story, right? But it’s true, I promise, so here’s another picture at least, as a tiny consolation.
Seriously!?!? Do you see the intensity on my face and the speed at which my hand is moving? I totally rocked at “Call Me Maybe” and by rocked I mean I had a whole lot of fun while trying to dance like a superstar. So you should definitely add Just Dance 4 to your video game library and play it all the time, for fun or for exercise, and especially after every single holiday meal.
I had recently purchased an X-Box 360 for my kids and I received a free gift from the vendor and he gave me a free CD which has a similar aerobics videos. I have been using it for quite some time and trust me it is really nice. I dont have to go to any gym or aerobics classes, I can do them at home!
