I will never like to clean – a Shaklee Product Review

Shaklee ProductsWhen I was a teenager Saturday was cleaning day in our house and if I wanted money to go roller skating much of the responsibility of that cleaning fell on my shoulders. I hated cleaning, but I did it since it meant I earned the money necessary to go spend time doing what I loved most while spending time with friends. My least favorite task was cleaning the bathroom, mostly because our bathroom counter was cluttered with so much stuff, which all had to be removed in order to clean that counter. Then of course was scrubbing the bathtub and *shudder* the toilet. I challenge you to find me a person who actually enjoys cleaning a toilet. I dare you.

I’m pretty sure the reason I have such an aversion to cleaning to this day is because of all the scouring and vacuuming I was required to do as a teenager. Our home certainly isn’t dirty, but I’m also not a person who cleans every day and I never will be. There are so many better ways I can think of to spend my time than having a spotless home. Like, well, pretty much anything. I prefer quick and easy when it comes to cleaning, like things that can be done with a spray bottle and a cloth or better yet, disinfecting wipes. I realize wipes are wasteful and more expensive, but they are so convenient and surfaces like those in the bathroom are way more likely to get quick tidy if I have a container of cleaning wipes handy. Let’s face it, I’m the only female in this household (a fact I may have mentioned a time or ten) so much of what I clean up, especially in the bathroom is boy germs and other stuff. Regardless of the gross factor I refuse to bring any cleaning products into my home that contain harsh chemicals, bleach, or other nasty ingredients that require ventilation while using them. I might not clean often, but when I do my family deserves the best. They should also help with the cleaning, but we can’t have everything, can we?

When I was recently asked to try out some of the products from Shaklee I was definitely interested. Of course by agreeing to pick out some of their products I was also committing to cleaning. I probably should have thought through that offer a little more. I immediately liked two products in their Get Clean line – the Germ Off Disinfecting wipes and the Basic H2 Organic Super Cleaning Concentrate.

As I’ve already mentioned I like wipes for the quick and handy convenience that they offer. I tucked the canister under the sink in the bathroom and one wipe can clean my entire sink, counter top, and the area around the toilet. They are fragrance-free, kill 99.9% of salmonella and e. coli and clean, disinfect, and deodorize without the use of bleach or alcohol. I love that I can simply wipe down my bathroom surfaces, allow them to air dry, and simply drop the wipe into the garbage all in just a few minutes, leaving me more time to, you know, play on the internet.

Something that has always annoyed me when it comes to household cleaners is the fact that you need several different bottles for each surface in your home. I want to grab one cloth and one bottle and spray and wipe without having to switch for the windows or the counters. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Basic H2 Organic Super Cleaning Concentrate works on multiple surfaces, many more than I even expected. From floors to mirrors and windows, it’s a very versatile cleaner. The 16oz. bottle provides 48 gallons of cleaning potential because it’s so highly concentrated, making it way less waste in your trash and more money in your wallet. Depending on the surface you intend to clean, the amount of concentrate varies – from only 2 drops to a 16oz. spray bottle for windows and mirrors, to 1 tablespoon added to a gallon of water to clean floors. Obviously this little bottle will last a really long time and will clean virtually every surface of your home. So far I’ve filled one spray bottle with water and a few drops of the concentrate and used it for my kitchen counters, bathroom surfaces, and wiping down my treadmill after a workout. Probably the most important thing to note is that there haven’t been any streaks on my bathroom mirrors – we all know how frustrating that can be with glass cleaners. I really like that both products are fragrance-free, but I might add a few drops of my favorite essential oil if I’d like a burst of scent the next time I fill a spray bottle or wash my kitchen floor. I’ve been really pleased with these products and I suppose if we really have to clean, we should be using products that are economical, non-toxic, and eco-friendly. Shaklee covers all that criteria rather nicely.

    • Ha! I knew I wasn’t the only one who had an aversion to cleaning. Shaklee has been around for a pretty long time, just not in stores.

  3. WOW you hit the nail on the head and I think I know why I hate to clean as well now as it was the same way in my household as a child as I was the oldest and if I wanted money I had to clean the house. But I also tried these products and if I have to clean at least I have something to use that will not hurt me. You can see my review on my blog.
