5 Reasons I Love Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

My family and I returned from a trip to Walt Disney World about a week ago and boy oh boy is the reentry process brutal. We had a wonderful time, but as always the time went by way too quickly. I simply love being at the Happiest Place on Earth this time of year because there are festive decorations everywhere you look and holiday music playing over many of the speakers. It’s a transformation like nothing you’ve ever seen before and if you are planning your first (or next) trip to Walt Disney World, I highly recommend the end of November when considering dates. This was our third time visiting the parks this time of year and besides taking in the all the gorgeous sights and sounds, we also attended Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom for the second year in a row. This is a special event that isn’t included in your park ticket price, but we were fortunate to receive complimentary tickets to attend. Regardless of being given free admission, my family loves this event for quite a few reasons.

The first reason we all love this event is that it’s, well, special. The number of tickets sold is limited, so the Magic Kingdom isn’t at all crowded, which means you can ride and enjoy all your favorite attractions with very little wait times. As a matter of fact, you might even get to ride your most favorite one more than once. P.S. Riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is even more thrilling in the dark. Hop aboard!

Another fun perk of attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is that there are several locations throughout the park where you can take a break and enjoy treats of complimentary sugar cookies and hot cocoa. Unlimited amounts of each. Yay for a free sugar rush to keep you going until the party ends at midnight. I’d like to add, too, that each of these stations also offers apple slices and apple juice for those who don’t want/like hot cocoa or cookies. This was especially nice for us because Cody is not a hot cocoa drinker, but he does enjoy a cup of apple juice every now and then.

Another reason my family absolutely loves attending this special event at the Magic Kingdom is because there is fun live entertainment that can only be seen at MVMCP. We especially enjoy the Totally Tomorrowland Christmas, which takes place in, you guessed it, the Tomorrowland section of the park. There are a few opportunities to take in the show throughout the evening and sing and dance to the music, so make sure you plan your night accordingly because you don’t want to miss this fun musical revue starring Buzz Lightyear, Stitch and Mike Wazowski, along with some of the most amazing dancers you’ll ever lay eyes on.

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade is another exclusive treat to enjoy while attending the party. There are several great spots to watch the parade and while many people love to line Main Street U.S.A., we personally enjoying viewing the festivities in Frontierland. It isn’t quite so crowded, plus this is the area where the parade begins, so you will get to see Santa Claus’s big arrival before anyone else and get back to riding the attractions that much sooner, too. Tip: Grab one of those complimentary cups of hot cocoa and a cookie (or three) before taking a seat to watch the parade.

The final reason I’ll mention for loving Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, especially this year, is that for the first-time-ever a visitor-favorite attraction was transformed for the holiday season. You wouldn’t want to miss the Jungle Cruise anytime of year, but this year is extra-special because the Skippers have given the attraction a total makeover, including a temporary new name of The Jingle Cruise. The jokes are still corny, but the boats are decked out in their holiday-best so hop aboard and and enjoy this festive take on a Disney classic attraction. Oh! Check out this cool mini-poster that each of us received as we exited the dock after our cruise. It’s part of Disney’s Limited Time Magic and I can’t wait to find the perfect frame to display it prominently in our home.
