As a green girl I don’t buy a lot of paper products. I completely stopped buying paper towels and paper napkins, but don’t worry, I still buy the most important paper product – the one for the bathroom. This time of year I do buy tissues, though. I swear I should own stock in the company, too, because we certainly go through several with all of the runny noses lately. Of course they are made completely of recycled paper and NO trees and are reasonable priced, so I can rest a little better with this as a necessary purchase.
Another thing that becomes more necessary this time of year is the use of good quality antibacterial cleaners to keep my family healthy and the germs at bay as much as possible. What I won’t do is rely on harsh chemicals or bleach to accomplish this – my lungs and skin thank me. I was recently introduced to the Method line of antibacterial products through the Mom Go Green Blog Tours at Green and Clean Mom . I have to say, I love these products. I received the bathroom cleaner (in spearmint), the kitchen cleaner (in lemon verbena), and the disinfecting wipes (in lemon verbena). Method partnered with another of my favorite companies, Clean Well, to create this amazing line of products using thyme-based disinfecting technology – and the two together created a product that doesn’t disappoint.
Some of my favorite highlights:
- 98% naturally-derived formula
- 100% bio-renewable + naturally-sourced alcohol
- kills 99.9% of germs
- 100% recycled plastic bottle
- biodegradable formula
- no triclosan, no parabens
I’ll be honest, I don’t enjoy cleaning. I don’t look forward to it and I certainly don’t get excited about it. At the same time, I’d rather clean with safe botanical products than those with harsh chemicals, bleach, or toxic fumes. One of my favorite things about these is you can clean, disinfect, or sanitize depending on your need or the surface you are treating. For example, with the bathroom cleaner, I sprayed and wiped down the sink and surrounding surface, but then in the shower, bath tub, and tub liner, I simply sprayed and left it to disinfect and sanitize – no wiping required. It left a fresh smell of spearment in my entire bathroom, which I just love.
Something else that is really important for all of us when shopping for cleaning products is the cost. They can be pricey and then if they aren’t effective, you’ve simply wasted your money. Although, I don’t think you’d be disappointed with the Method line, they are priced at a reasonable $3.99 and are available at retailers like Target, Lowe’s, Bed Bath, and Beyond and Whole Foods. I was never really excited to see the term antibacterial in the past because I don’t feel it’s necessary since we need a certain amount of bacteria in our bodies to fight illness and strengthen our immune system, but I couldn’t agree more with this statement from Adam Lowry, Method co-founder and Chief Greenskeeper:
“In the past, we were unwilling to develop or promote antibacterial cleaners because we had not yet found a technology that met our strict ingredient standards and aligned with our principles. We recognize that some people prefer to use antibacterial cleaners for high-contact surfaces like toilets and sinks, and we’re excited to offer a line of disinfecting cleaners that utilizes CleanWell’s botanical technology.”
