Ever since I started running I’ve been on the lookout for the best clothes to wear, a reliable GPS watch, and the most beneficial foods to eat. I do a lot of research so I can find what works best for me, which has led me to having more than one of my dresser drawers filled with running clothes, a watch I love, and my favorite ‘recovery’ drink. I was both surprised and quite pleased to learn that chocolate milk is pretty much the perfect combination of carbs and protein, which is exactly what my muscles need after a run, or any good workout, really. Oh, and let’s face it, chocolate milk is pretty darn tasty, too, which means I feel like I’m indulging when I guzzle a glass after I exercise.
Recently the folks at Hood reached out to me and asked if I would like to create and share a healthy recipe, including one of the Hood Simply Smart milks as an ingredient. Of course my first thought was that I’d love to come up with something both yummy and healthy and my second thought was that I wanted to make the Hood Simply Smart Fat Free Chocolate Milk the star of this particular recipe.

I know I am, but if you need a little more convincing I have a recipe that you are going to want to try as soon as you can rush to the store and pick up all the ingredients, but I’m also willing to bet you already have some in your kitchen right now.
Chocolate Banana Smoothie
I’ll be honest, when I make a smoothie I pretty much like to toss some healthy ingredients into the blender and then mix it up, so I don’t do a lot of measuring. Today, though, I’ve got a specific recipe with some measurement guidelines to help you make the most delicious chocolate milk smoothie in the whole wide world. Okay, maybe not the entire world, but it’s really good. And oh so simple.
Here’s what you need:
- 1 cup Hood Simply Smart Fat Free Chocolate Milk
- 1/4 – 1/2 cup Plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup Strawberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 banana (preferably one that is as ripe as possible)
Here’s what you need to do:
Add all ingredients to a blender and mix until it’s reached your preferred consistency. If you like a nice creamy, thick smoothie (like I do), you can add a handful of ice cubes for the perfect consistency. That’s what I love about smoothies. Aside from the fact they are a great way to get in some healthy calories, they are also pretty easy to personalize using whatever ingredients you have on hand. Just make sure you start with a nutritious base, like that Hood Simply Smart Milk.
