One of my favorite things about having a Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone with U.S. Cellular is that there is literally an app for everything. From playing my favorite word game with friends to logging my runs and donating to charity, there are several apps I use on a daily basis. While there are many fun ones to pass the time when you need a distraction from the “real” world, there are also several that are more practical and useful for everyday life. I have always loved and preferred being able to access my various accounts online, especially those for our household bills, so finding apps to manage our finances would make my life a bit easier and maybe even relieve some of my money stress. It can be challenging at times when I need to look at finances, but can’t because I don’t have access to my laptop, which is why I welcome the idea of managing our money right from my smartphone. Not only is it convenient, but I also think it might bring a little bit of organization to my life, which is an area I can certainly use a little help with.
Just a couple days ago I received an email from my bank that stated they now offer mobile banking and mobile deposit. How’s that for timing? Seriously though, I’m super excited to have this new option with my bank, especially the mobile deposit. While I’m a little freaked out at the thought of snapping a photo and sending it to my financial institution to make a deposit, the convenience of it makes me a bit giddy, especially since I get to use my super fast 4G LGE network connection. Sometimes it’s the little things, people. Anyway, I can’t wait to get started with this great new app and I really can’t wait for a check to arrive in the mail so I can try out the mobile deposit option. I’m sure you’ll be waiting on the edge of your seat for me to share my experience, so in the meantime here are a couple great apps for managing your finances on-the-go with your smartphone or when you simply don’t have access to a computer.
Manage Finances On-the Go
TaxCaster App by TurboTax: April 15th is right around the corner and goodness knows it can be challenging to find the time to either do your own taxes or schedule an appointment with a professional to do the work for you. This great app enables users to get a rough estimate of their 2013 federal tax refund while on-the-go. It uses the exact same formula found in the TurboTax software and can use its estimates to suggest the best TurboTax product for when you are ready to file your taxes. I seriously think this app was designed for people just like me because I love to have an idea of the amount of our tax return before I have time to sit down and do all the actual calculations. My taxes are all done and submitted for this year, but I’m going to download this app for next year because I have no doubt it will come in handy.
Expensify: This app is a dream for anyone who is a small business owner or is someone who has lots of expenses and receipts to keep track of. Expensify lets you to capture receipts, log mileage and generate reports on-the-go. Not only does it save you time, but also paper and the stress of expense reporting and reimbursement. I think I’ll recommend this one to my husband because he is often on-the-road for work and Expensify could be exactly what he needs to be more organized and efficient.
How about you? Do you have a favorite app for managing your finances on the go? Or maybe you’d like to send me a check, you know, so I can try out the mobile deposit option with my bank? Oh, I’m only kidding, but you can feel free to send me cupcakes.
Disclosure: I’m a compensated member of the U.S. Cellular Better Moments Blogger Brigade, but as always thoughts and opinions are my own.

Kudos to NJBIA for keeping the focus on the key issues of our state’s many dilemmas with actual facts and figures. You can’t tackle a problem as large as this in one fail swoop; but, starting with a clean slate of new rules going forward is a good place to start. Course corrections with a ship of state the size of New Jersey will be slow, but the messages which identify (and hopefully) address the problems will be warmly welcomed by residents and businesses alike.
Thanks for the article! We’re married and very similar with our spending habits (spend as little as possible!). That said, we kept our finances separate just due to practical reasons – separate loans. But I buy some things for her or us, my wife Ellie buys something or me or us. I’ll transfer money to her when she needs something, and visa versa. It works because we’re on the same page and trust each other fully. When we’re retired we’ll finally pool accounts together!
Charity begins at home. A well planned initiative should and must encourage a financial management systems. Many thanks to the brains behind the MFPP.Consultant
