I have a question for you. Do you wear socks? Yeah, socks on your feet? I do. I wear them all the time. I am just one of those people who always has a pair of socks on, even in bed, I just like the feeling of a comfy pair of socks on my feet. As you may also know, most pairs of socks are made with cotton and cotton is, essentially, a crop that grows in nature and is usually sprayed quiet heavily with pesticides. I mean dirty heavy with pesticides. Dangerous levels, in fact. This article written by the Organic Trade Commission is quite scary when you consider the affects of the pesticides and their impact on the environment and on the people who work with them or live near where the cotton is harvested.
I try to buy as much of my food products organic as my budget will allow, but clothing is a much bigger challenge for me due to the cost. I look for really great sales and have been able to buy a few pieces of clothing for my family. I have to tell you, I feel the difference. The softness of organic cotton, even wash after wash, is amazing.
I was so thrilled the first time I was introduced to Zkano Organic Cotton Socks. They are a small family owned company and are produced right her in the USA. Makes me we wanna do a happy dance (in my Zkano socks, of course) just thinking about these two facts alone. Supporting a hardworking American family in their non-sweatshop production of organic cotton socks is something we can all feel great about! I am nosy curious and I like to know the background about a company, where they came from, why they do what they do…..who they are. I asked where the name Zkano came from. Good question, right? I mean it’s such a unique and interesting name so there must be a special reason for it! They shared this with me:
“Kano” is a Native American word that means “a state of being good”, which we embrace by offering a product that is good for the environment, good for people who grow the cotton, and good for those who wear our socks. Hence our slogan, Be Good Feel Good.
I believe every word of it. In my interactions with Gina over at Zkano, I get a true sense of her love for her company and her desire and commitment to put forth a quality product that benefits everyone and everything.
I almost forgot to mention that Earth Day is this week on April 22nd and it’s the 40th Anniversary!! I hope you will be thinking about that as you go through your week. Maybe commit to just one change that’s better for your family and for the planet. Some examples are to stop buying things like plastic water bottles, recycle whenever possible, or replace your toxic cleaners with more “people” and planet-friendly products.

We do not use our dryer! We line dry our laundry outside in the warm weather months and inside all winter long!! Sure would love to line dry some of these socks 😀
