Weight Loss Apps & Why My Husband Loves Garmin Connect

Weight Loss Apps

With the end of 2015 fast approaching, many people are probably already thinking about their New Year’s resolutions. Have you made a mental list in your head or have you written down any resolutions for 2016? Personally I’m not much for making New Year’s resolutions. Mainly because I don’t always follow through, but also because I think it’s good to make changes and try to improve all throughout the year. One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is always to lose weight. Raise your hand if you’ve ever put that one at the top of your list? I know I have and I may have even used it as an excuse to overindulge during the holidays. Nowadays, though, with sophisticated technology like my Samsung Galaxy S6 and reliable wireless networks like the one that U.S. Cellular provides, it is easier than ever to stay on track with your weight loss goals and improve your chance for success. The best part is that you can even begin monitoring your progress during the holidays rather than waiting until your flip your calendar to January 1st. Personally I love the S Health app, which is built right into my Samsung Galaxy S6 and keeps track of my daily activity, even offering encouragement every now and then when I’m not moving as much as I should be. It’s pretty basic and very easy to use, but if you’re looking for other weight loss apps to help you stay on top of your wellness goals then I have a few that might be exactly what you’re looking for this holiday season.

Weight Loss Apps

  • Fooducate is a free app for both iOS and Android that is perfect for those who want to track their calories while working toward their weight loss goals. What’s even more cool about Fooducate is that you can use the app to scan a product barcode and immediately see what “grade” (A, B, C or D) it gets and know just how good those calories are for you.
  • Let’s face it, the holidays can be very stressful for a lot of us, which makes it an important time of year to keep track of your blood pressure. The iBP Blood Pressure app is not only a great one to use, but also super simple to understand because it uses different colors to display your readings and alert you if your blood pressure is elevated. Cost: $0.99 on iOS or Android.
  • My husband wears and loves his Garmin Vivofit activity tracker, especially since it syncs with Garmin Connect which is totally free. There is even a free app that stores his personal health and activity statistics that he can then use to upload the information it to the mobile app on his Samsung Galaxy S5 using a wireless Bluetooth connection. I also love that he can view his daily activity to see how he’s doing and to help keep him motivated. As an added bonus, he an I are connected on the Garmin website so I can see his progress and give him encouragement every now and then!
  • MyFitnessPal is another great (and free) app that helps you count calories while working toward your fitness goals. In addition, it stores your activity information, which helps you keep track of whether the calories you’re burning are more or less than the calories you’re consuming.  The MyFitnessPal app is also a fun and social way to connect with your friends and to support each other as you both work toward reaching your goals.
  • One more app that is great for tracking calories is Lose It! It stores your calorie consumption and keeps an eye on your diet to help you stay on track throughout the week. The Lose It! app is another wonderful way to stay connected with friends and family near and far because it syncs with Facebook and Twitter, so you can see others’ progress and share your own no matter how far apart you live from one another.

What’s YOUR favorite fitness app to keep you motivated and connected with friends??

P.S. Don’t forget to download and customize your very own Parent Child Cell Phone Agreement so everyone in the family is on the same page with rules and expectations, especially if someone is receiving a brand new smartphone this holiday season!
