Help the Portland Sea Dogs & STRIVE Break a Guinness World Record

One of our most favorite things to do as a family during the summer months here in Maine is attend a Portland Sea Dogs baseball game. They are the Double-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and the games are always fun and entertaining for our entire family. We actually haven’t had the chance to attend a game yet this year, so when I heard about what they have planned for this Friday night’s game I knew we had to be there! It’s being called High Fives for STRIVE because the Sea Dogs are teaming up with STRIVE in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most simultaneous high fives. How exciting is that?!?!

Portland Sea Dogs & STRIVE Guinness World Record Attempt

The Portland Sea Dogs have partnered with STRIVE to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Most Simultaneous High Fives.  High Fives for STRIVE will take place on Friday, July 5th at Hadlock Field when the Sea Dogs host the New Britain Rock Cats at 7:00 PM.

During the middle of the third inning, Slugger the Sea Dog will ask all fans in attendance to help break the record by high fiving the person next to them.  Among the requirements are: all high fives must occur within a five-second window, people attempting the record may only use one hand, each participant may be part of only one high five, and participants must actually slap their entire hand against the hand offered to them (palm to palm) for a high five; the hands should meet above the height of their heads.

The current world record for most simultaneous high fives is 4,699, set by The Kroger Co. at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky on April 16, 2013.

STRIVE serves tweens, teens, and young adults with intellectual and emotional disabilities.  STRIVE assists the students in utilizing their resources within their community so that they can participate as viable members of the community.  Founded in 1999, the focus includes: improving fundamental academic skills, developing leadership potential, improving economic opportunities through continuing education, enhancing or upgrading work skills, integrating literary and social skills into occupational/vocational opportunities, fostering career opportunities through education and training, and promoting peer support for parents and siblings of this young population.

Are you busy on Friday night? Do you live in, or will you be near, the Portland Maine area on Friday night? If so, I hope you’ll join me and my family as we give High Fives for STRIVE and help them demolish that Guinness Record!
