NaBloPoMo – The Finish Line is Finally in Sight

I can’t believe we are almost to the end of November. Okay, what I really mean is I can’t believe we’re almost to the end of National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo). Time sure flies when you’re having fun, eh? I don’t know that I would necessarily say it’s been all fun, but it hasn’t been all that bad, either. There have been a few, or several, days this month when I wasn’t quite sure if I could make it to the end of the month writing a blog post every single day. There were also many nights like tonight when I was tired and wanted nothing more than to lay my head down and fall asleep, but instead I logged into my dashboard and put some words on the screen and hoped they made some sort of sense when I hit the publish button.

So here I am on Day 25 and still going strong, well maybe not necessarily strong, but definitely pushing through. At the beginning of the month I compared this type of writing challenge to running a half marathon and I don’t think I ever felt that to be more true than earlier tonight when I was literally falling asleep on the couch watching television. I climbed into bed and I told myself it wasn’t a big deal if I didn’t write tonight, especially since I’ve already made it this far. I mean, writing a blog post every day for 24 days is still something to be proud of, but then I told myself OMG you can’t quit now because you’ve made it this far. It’s like the last couple miles of the half marathon when my feet burned with pain and my calves were screaming for me to put them out of their misery, but my brain was was pushing me to finish. And I did finish. I got a high-five from Mickey Mouse right before crossing the finish line, had a medal placed around my neck by a generous volunteer, and limped to the buses waiting to take me back to my resort. It might not have been pretty and some of my miles were slower than others, but I never gave up no matter how physically challenging it got and I’m not giving up on this NaBloPoMo writing challenge either. Some of my posts are long and some of them are short, others are deeply personal and some are just for fun, but I’m going to finish because I’ve worked too hard and put in too much of an effort to bow out now.
