Healthy Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie

I generally drink water all day long, especially in the hot summer months, but sometimes when I want to get a quick and healthy burst of delicious flavor, I make a smoothie.  Nick loves them, too, so it’s a bonus and a way to get in a fruit serving for the day.  Not to mention some dairy and flaxseeds!  It is really amazing all that you can sneak into a smoothie and pack it with nutritional goodness for you and your family.  And serving it in a fun glass makes it even more special.
Here’s what you need:

  • about 10 oz. cold water
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseeds
  • 1 cup of frozen fruit – I used a mix of strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries
  • 1/2 to 1 cup plain yogurt – I use Organic Stonyfield Farms

Put everything in the blender and mix it up until smooth, unless you like it a bit more chunky with some bits of fruit!  We like it pretty smooth, but thick so I put the higher amount of yogurt.  You can pretty much put anything in that you want or have on hand for fresh or frozen fruit, or even some freshly sqeezed orange juice.  What is good about the banana is that it adds some sweetness without any sugar.  Smoothies are so fun because you don’t really even need a recipe.  Make it fun and try different combinations!
Enjoy!
