Halloween Safety Tips & How to Get a Free Backpack from PureGear

I can almost remember Halloween as a child like it was yesterday, or last year, or a very long time ago. I loved putting on my vinyl costume and wearing the matching plastic mask that made my face feel like it was in a sauna, and mostly I loved going out trick-or-treating with the biggest bag my mom could find. Being a kid on Halloween was so much fun, especially if your bag contained mostly chocolate candy at the end of the night.

When my own boys were little (aren’t they adorable in their homemade Dalmatian costumes?) I loved taking them trick-or-treating, but mostly I loved helping them decide on a costume and then trying to make them myself even though I wasn’t the most crafty mom on the block. They were always made with love and that’s what matters most, right? Cody and Nick certainly never complained because the most important things to them was going door-to-door and coming home with a bag full of candy. My kids and I are a lot alike. Now that they’re older and don’t go trick-or-treating anymore I mostly look forward to the day AFTER Halloween, you know, for the good deals in the candy aisle. If I happen to have a coupon, even better.

Now that we’ve taken a fun little trip down my memory lane, let’s talk about you and your adorable kids and how much you’re all looking forward to Halloween, trick-or-treating, and coming home with enough candy to last until the new year. While I hope it’s a fun night for everyone I also hope you and your family are safe. I remember that being the number one concern when I was a kid, but fortunately not so much with my boys because we had an area of our city where the streets were pretty much closed to traffic. There were a lot of people, however, so we definitely always kept a close eye on Cody and Nick, but we didn’t necessarily have to worry about automobile traffic.

Since I care about you and your kids so much and I want you to be able to focus mostly on the fun of Halloween I’ve got a few safety tips that might come in handy! We might not have had smartphones when I was a child, but most of us do now and they can come in quite handy when you want to stay connected, stay safe, and of course take some cute photos of your little darlings.

Halloween Safety Tips

  1. Speaking of photos, I love the camera on my Samsung Galaxy S7 and I really love taking photos of my kids and I’m willing to bet you have a bunch of snapshots of your kids already stored in your smartphone as well. Of course I hope you don’t have any unforeseen issues arise, but it’s best to be prepared. A good way to do that is to make sure you take Halloween photos of the kids before they get into their costume and then take a few of them once they’re all dress up. Just remember that if they are wearing any type of mask to take photos both with and without the mask, just to be on the safe side. Most importantly, take a LOT of pictures and share them on your favorite social media channel because people like me want to see as many as possible.
  2. If your kids are older and you allow them to go trick-or-treating without you the Find my Friends app is a great way to keep track of where they are so you don’t have to stress or worry. If you have an iPhone it’s already loaded in your phone, but if you’re an Android user like me then you can simply download it in the Google Play store. It would actually pair nicely with the Parent Child Cell Phone Agreement (if you haven’t already downloaded it).
  3. Before allowing kids to head out alone make sure you program a few alarms or reminders so they don’t forget to check in periodically. They get to keep having fun and you get to relax knowing they are safe.
  4. Possibly the most important thing you can do to prepare for Halloween, especially if the kids are trekking out alone, is to make sure their devices are fully charged. If their smartphone doesn’t have the long-lasting battery that my Samsung Galaxy S7 does then you might want to consider sending them out with a portable charger. The PureGear® PureJuice Portable Charger is a great option and right now if you order the PureJuice 10K charger they’ll include a FREE PureGear Backpack (valued at $44.99) – what a heck of a deal, especially if you’re already looking for a backpack!
  5. One of biggest challenges on Halloween night can be getting around in the dark, which is why I love that my phone has a built-in flashlight and I’d be willing to bet that yours does, too. Remind the kids, too, because they might forget they have one in all the excitement.

One last thing that isn’t really a safety tip, but I like to be bossy sometimes so here goes. Have fun, take lots of photos, and make sure the kids share their candy with you because nobody likes a greedy little goblin.

Now, I have a very important question to ask. What is your favorite piece of Halloween candy? For me, it’s basically anything that contains chocolate because, well, chocolate.
