Cleaning Out the Clutter & Saying Goodbye to Summer

Here I go again putting off writing for NaBloPoMo until the very last minute. You’d think I’d have learned by now to fit it in earlier in the day, but today was especially challenging since it’s the weekend and everyone was at home together. I really try very hard not to get online (much) when Paul, Cody, and Nick are home and that’s not any different just because I decided to take on a blogging challenge for the month of November. Oh! I just have to pause for a second to point out that today is the 15th, which means I made it half way and I’m totally patting myself on the back and high-fiving my right hand with my left hand. Of course there’s a part of me celebrating the half way point, but there’s this other part of me thinking oh my gosh I’m only half way done?!?! In reality November is flying by pretty quickly, but it’s funny how we look at things differently depending on our goals and attitude.

While getting this post written was on my mind all day long I spent most of it pretty busy with cleaning and reorganizing an outdoor storage shed. Even though it’s outside and away from our everyday living space the clutter out there bugs me and weighs me down, which is something that Paul simply doesn’t understand. There’s something truly freeing about cleaning out the clutter in life, both physically and metaphorically, which is why it didn’t even both me (much) that it was only about 30 degrees outside when I decided to do a little cleaning. I managed to fill an entire garbage bag with stuff that was actually trash, I created a donation pile for Goodwill, and I begrudgingly dragged out a couple of storage containers filled with winter clothes. Do you want to what’s worse than having to fill my drawers and closet with those winter clothes? Emptying my drawers and closet of summer clothes. I hated having to fold up my favorite season and pack it away in a storage bin for the next six months, but there is one silver lining in my winter-hating misery. I realized I have way more summer clothes than I do winter clothes, which means I get to go shopping. Tomorrow. I should definitely go shopping tomorrow.

  1. I love that feeling of getting rid of things and cleaning out. Once I do it I wish I would have started earlier. Holidays are a perfect time for that too!

  2. When we clean the house then feel very happy. A clean house is peaceful! I seriously love coming home to a perfectly aesthetically-pleasing house. I’m only noting that the work involved in cleaning your house takes your peace. It is so much work to manage the household.

  3. Sometimes I get caught up in the run and gun of my job. I don’t have time to eat lunch let alone clean out my desk. It’s nonstop, but I find if my desk is organized, I am much more efficient.
