A Greener Holiday!

With the holidays coming and all of the waste that goes along with it, I have been trying to think of a way to minimize all of that as best I can. I have come up with a few ideas that I hope you will find helpful!
First, gift wrapping can be so expensive and oh, so wasteful if you don’t use something that can be used again or recycled. One of my favorites, of course is newspaper. You can add a holiday look to it with nice red or green ribbon!
Do you have any old fabric scraps or maybe even felt laying around?? Try wrapping a gift in that and tie it up with some nice ribbon or twine and what a beautiful presentation! Or, make the wrapping a part of the gift! Maybe fill a basket with some home-baked goodies that the receiver will always remember! I love to save my old glass peanut butter jars and present them with something yummy inside. I decorate the jar and make a personalized label!!
How about an apron with kitchen goodies wrapped inside for the chef on your list??
My absolute favorite gift tags are those that I have been making for several years. I use Christmas cards from the previous year and cut out pieces to create a nice label, punch a hole, add some ribbon, and voila!! I have gotten many compliments about this over the years. I recycled my old cards and saved money on expensive gift tags!
It really is true that the homemade gifts created with love are the most treasured. It might take some thought and your personal time, but it will be so worth it in the end when the person you give the gift to feels the love that went into creating their special gift.
